Omar Credle is the most unique member of Diggin' In the Crates. While everyone else in the crew specializes in mic braggadacio and guns, O.C. can take on a variety of subjects. For those of you that don't know, O.C. is best known for his single "Time's Up" on the underground classic Word...Life. Turn your pages to 1997. Omar's ready to follow up with Jewelz. But, does it live up to what Word...Life established? Hell yeah. Let's go over the production. Being blessed with tracks by Buckwild, DJ Premier, DJ Ogee, Showbiz, Da Beatminerz, and Lord Finesse, it's needless to say that the production is off the hook. Just one reason to stop sleeping on this album. O.C.'s performance is the other reason to stop sleeping. O.C. bridges his conscious and hardcore style with controntational, mic killing tracks ("Win the G", "M.U.G."), stories ("Stronjay", "The Crow"), and just good ol' rhyme spittin' ("Jewelz", "My World", "The Chosen One", etc.). And every song here is either great or classic. Do I need to say that again? EVERY SONG HERE IS EITHER GREAT OR CLASSIC! The only song I don't like as much as the rest is "Stronjay", but even that's cool. Even the songs that sound poised to crossover are off the hook. "Can't Go Wrong" is about that perfect girl and it's off the hook. "Dangerous" with Big L sounds like a rowdy party anthem to pop corks to in the club and it's off the hook. Finally, "Far From Yours" has O.C. kickin' raps without much swearing with a R&B chick singing the hook. Not only is "Far From Yours" off the hook, IT'S MY FAVORITE SONG HERE! Weird, huh? What makes these songs work so good is that they don't compromise what O.C. is about. To summarize, Jewelz is another underground classic that somehow got less attention than Word...Life. I'ma go out on a limb here and say that Jewelz is even better than Word...Life. Why do I say this? Because I feel that Buckwild's radio-friendlier beats worked much better here (I didn't care much for "Born 2 Live" (the original) and "Ma Dukes"). All hip-hop fans need to cop this album as soon as possible. It's your call, non-fans. Hopefully, O.C. can still release great music with the Hieroglyphics. Song Quality: 10/10 (another notch in D.I.T.C.'s belt) Lyrics: 9.5/10 (O.C.'s one of the best) Beats: 10/10 (down-to-earth, underground perfection) Favorites: My World War Games Can't Go Wrong The Chosen One Dangerous Win the G Far From Yours M.U.G. The Crow You & Yours Hypocrite It's Only Right Jewelz Least favorites: none
